tFriday 13th March:

More people are dying and contracting the infection, and hospitals are expecting ever increasing numbers everywhere. The uk have not managed to contain the spread of coronavirus despite the hope that we would-we are now in the delay phase - aimed to slow the spread by keeping people at home in the hope that we can keep the increase in the number of cases manageable so that our beloved NHS can cope. I’m distressed for the first time that this became our inevitability.  Have we been too late in acting as a nation? Have I been too laid back about what I thought covid-19's potential was? I’m glad I have take the precautions at work that I have, and for my family, but this is an invisible assailant, and all I want is for my family to be safe.  Brother now has flu like symptoms in USA. Hope it’s not coronavirus. Or if it is I hope it’s mild and he gets some immunity. It's also difficult to know if any viral symptoms with upper or lower respiratory tract symptoms are covid or any other virus-as this is still flu season after all. Self isolation for 7 days been advised now if a cough or fever. I’m still fighting off whatever virus I got 6 weeks ago so I'm thinking it wasn't coronavirus! Or else I have been a super spreader without knowing...!

At 10pm my husband takes a call. And he doesn’t come to bed until midnight. The Arsenal manager has tested positive for Covid-19, and Arsenal were the last team to play my husband’s team. I ask him if he shook anyone’s hand at the game. As the run-on physio he said if he did it would have been with gloves on. I breathe a brief sigh of relief. He rightly says that despite the push-back on many things in his role as head of Medical in all his years in football, this has now become a purely medical issue and not a football one, so he hopes he will be heard as he works with his closest colleagues-the doctors and others of his immediate medical staff as well as the owners, chairmen and women, and head coaches and manager at the club-to prioritise the safety of the staff, coaches and players.

14th March 2020:

No football game or work for Rich he is staying home-his premiership game today has been cancelled.  It's a first. Deaths in uk double overnight from coronavirus. Brother is worried uk is too late in locking down and the government keeping everyone home. Italy is looking bad..
